TikTok’s New Green Screen Duets Combine Two of Its Most Popular Features

Social

Remixing videos on TikTok just got easier with Green Screen Duet, a mashup of two of the app’s most popular features designed to make video reactions more immersive.

TikTok Launches Green Screen Duet

With Green Screen Duet, TikTok fans can use other TikToks as the background for their own video. This results in an immersive experience that’s designed to “inspire imaginative new formats for creativity and expression,” reads an announcement on the TikTok website.

Existing Duet layouts include Left and Right, React, and Top and Bottom. Green Screen Duet is the latest layout addition to our lineup, giving users a new way to collaborate with existing content from across TikTok.

TikTok’s announcement includes a few examples of Green Screen Duets in action. Using someone else’s TikTok as the background in a new video also credits the creator of the Duetted video in the new video’s caption, with a link that directs to the original.

Green Screen Duet is basically a video-focused expansion of TikTok’s existing Green Screen feature that allows you to put custom images in the background of your own videos.

Green Screen Duets are perfect for immersive video reactions when TikTok’s existing Duets and Stitches are lacking. The Duet feature tiles two videos next to each other. And with Stitch, TikTok plays a few seconds of the original video before the new one starts.

How To Use TikTok’s Green Screen Duet

Starting a Duetted video on TikTok is a pretty straightforward process.

To use this feature, you must first Duet the video that you’d like to use as your Green Screen background. Next, select the Green Screen option from the Duet layout options. That’s it, the Duetted video will now play in the background of your new video as you record it.

There’s no denying the fact that video remixes have become one of the more popular features of short-form video services. TikTok has started the trend with a Remix feature but it didn’t take long for Instagram to copy it for its Reels service.

Snap’s TikTok competitor Spotlight is also gaining traction, having passed 100 million users in February 2021, two months after its debut. On top of that, Google has established a $100 million fund to pay creators who post original YouTube videos to Shorts.

Competition is certainly strong in this space.

That said, however, TikTok is showing no signs of slowing down even as its competitors look to borrow its most popular features. Unfazed by all this, TikTok continues to roll out new features like live captions, introduce new filters to the app, add immersive music effects for people to use in their TikToks, expand third-party integrations, and more.
