WhatsApp allows you to share status updates that disappear after 24 hours. It’s nearly identical to the stories you see on Instagram, Snapchat, and many other social platforms.

Sometimes, however, your story might get viewed by someone who you wish didn’t see it. To avoid this, the app lets you hide your status from select individuals in your contacts list, so they can’t see when you’ve uploaded a new status update.

Here’s what to know about hiding your WhatsApp Status from certain contacts.

How to Hide Your WhatsApp Status From Someone

WhatsApp Status isn’t a new feature, it’s been around since 2017. But over the years, Meta (formerly Facebook) has slowly improved its overall design and usability, and also made it more private in the process.

To hide your WhatsApp status from specific individuals, follow the steps below:

  1. Open WhatsApp and go to the Status tab.
  2. Tap the three-dots menu and select Status privacy.
  3. Tap My contacts except… and select the contacts you want to hide your status from. Use the search tool if you’re having trouble finding a specific contact. Once done, tap the checkmark icon to confirm changes.
  4. Alternatively, if you want to show your status to only a handful of contacts, go back to the Status privacy menu and tap Only share with… and select your desired contacts. Tap the checkmark icon to confirm.

And you’re done! The contacts you selected will no longer be able to see the stories you upload. Do note that the stories they have already seen will still be visible until expiry. If you find this feature useful, you might want to check out new privacy features on WhatsApp.
