How Does PayPal Work When You Want to Pay Someone?

Tips

PayPal is one of the world’s most popular online payment services and is used by millions of people globally every day. As a secure and swift digital payment option, PayPal keeps its users safe and protected while making payments online.

If you’re curious about how PayPal makes it possible for you to transfer funds to someone you want to pay online securely, you’ve come to the right place. Read on as we detail how PayPal works when you want to pay someone online.

How Does PayPal Work?

PayPal is one of the most widely used payment methods because it is easy to use, secure, and swift.

You first need to create a PayPal account and link a funding source. The funding source can be a bank account or even a debit or credit card. After registering your PayPal account and setting it up, you can send and receive payments through your PayPal wallet.

Your PayPal wallet essentially securely stores all of your bank account, credit card, and debit card details, so you choose which funding source you want to use when making a payment.

How to Pay Someone With PayPal

Sending money with PayPal is straightforward. If the person you’re sending money to has a PayPal account, then you need their registered email address to make the payment.

To send someone money over PayPal, log in to your account, click on Send & Request, and enter the receiver’s email address, username, or phone number. You will then be asked to enter the amount and choose a payment method.

If you want to change the funding source, click on Change and choose a different payment method.

Alternatively, if you need to send money through your PayPal account to a bank account instead, you can send it using PayPal’s very own Xoom service.

What Happens if You Don’t Have Money in Your Bank Account?

If your primary payment method is a bank account and does not have sufficient funds to make the payment, PayPal will attempt to use your backup payment method. In some cases, it can be a debit card or credit card. If the backup payment method is unavailable, your payment will not go through and fail.
