What Is Twitter Blue and How Much Does It Cost?

Social

In a bid to find new ways to improve users’ experiences online, Twitter has launched a new paid subscription service called Twitter Blue.

Twitter Blue is the platform’s jump into paid subscriptions. It has rolled out in a limited number of countries to begin with, but expects to expand in the future.

The subscription will allow users to access exclusive features and more. But what exactly is Twitter Blue, and how much does it cost? Is it even worth the money? Keep reading to find out.

What Is Twitter Blue?

Twitter App on Phone

Twitter Blue is a new monthly subscription service offering individuals who are willing to pay a small fee exclusive access to premium features and customizations. The subscription first launched in Australia and Canada in June 2021.

At the time of writing, there has been no release date set for any other regions or countries.

Twitter Blue will not replace the free version of the app, which remains available for users in supported countries. It’s also worth keeping in mind that Twitter Blue is not the same as getting verified with a blue tick.

Twitter Blue will include various exclusive features, including:

  • Undo Tweets: Yes, you read that right. With a Twitter Blue membership, you’ll have the opportunity to undo a post that you didn’t want to send. You can also preview content to ensure that your post is free of errors.
  • Reader Mode: Twitter Blue has a “Reader Mode” feature, which makes threads read more like an article. It has a more seamless look as profile photos, usernames, timestamps, and so on are removed from view.
  • Bookmarking Folders: With the free version of Twitter, you can bookmark individual pieces of content. Twitter Blue, however, allows you to organize things into folders.

Twitter says that subscription prices for Blue will change depending on the user’s region. In Canada, you’ll pay a monthly fee of CAD$3.49. In Australia, meanwhile, the service will cost AUD$4.49/month.

Since Twitter hasn’t yet decided where it will next launch the product, it also hasn’t considered pricing models for other markets.

Is Twitter Blue Worth It?

Social Media Applications on Phone

For some people, the idea of paying to use social media might not sit well. Twitter Blue has some useful new features that users will no doubt enjoy, such as the ability to undo tweets.

Shortly after its launch, we talked about why we’re not big fans of Twitter Blue at the moment. While you can undo a post, you still can’t edit it. And some of the other features, such as additional support, aren’t too useful if you’re an average user.

Having said that, Twitter Blue’s monthly fee isn’t *that* extortionate. And as a new feature, it will undoubtedly improve over time. So, if you live in either Canada or Australia, it might be worth giving it a try and forming your own opinion. If you don’t like it, you can always cancel your subscription.

Twitter Blue: A New Subscription Worth Considering

Twitter Blue is the platform’s biggest step yet into the world of paid subscriptions. Despite only rolling out in two markets so far, it’ll likely end up in other parts of the globe before too long.

While it will undoubtedly suffer from teething problems (like any new subscription offering), using Twitter Blue will give you a new layer of customization for your online experience. And even if they don’t stick with it for long, the low monthly fee will encourage some users to at least give it a try.
